Protective film made to measure: the guide from surface to care
In short
First you check whether the surface is smooth and closed, then you choose one of the four films, measure and order in the configurator. After delivery you apply the film wet and care for it with water and a mild cleaner. This guide leads to every step.
From surface to care in six steps, each with the article that covers the step in detail.
Updated:

1. Check the surface
Everything starts with the surface. Our acrylate adhesive holds on smooth, closed surfaces: paint, coatings, glass, ceramics, metal and smooth plastic. Oiled, waxed and raw wood as well as rough surfaces are not suitable; lightly textured and unknown surfaces we check on a sample.
Freshly painted surfaces need at least four weeks of curing beforehand.
2. Choose a film
There are four films: Clear, Premium Clear, Matte and High Gloss. Clear and Premium Clear leave the look of the surface as it is; Premium Clear is thicker and self-healing for fine scratches. Matte takes away gloss and reflections, High Gloss lays a high-gloss finish over piano lacquer.
The assistant asks three questions and names the film. What the film is not meant for is described in the article on limits.
3. Measure and choose the cutting option
You measure the surface that the film is to cover in several places. With “Exact to size” your dimensions are the final dimensions; with “Cut it yourself” you add about one centimetre allowance all round. Before ordering you can print the trial template at 1:1 and lay it on.
Round and oval tops, freeforms and many pieces at once have their own articles.
4. Configure and order
In the configurator you choose film, shape and dimensions, and the price appears immediately. Which items make it up is explained in the price article; which values currently apply is shown live by the configurator.
The film is only cut after your order and delivered rolled.
5. Applying
The surface is made grease- and dust-free, the film is aligned wet with application solution and squeegeed from the centre outwards. Most bubbles form before laying, from dust, grease or too little application solution. After that the adhesive needs 24 hours.
6. Care and removal
Water, a soft cloth and a mild cleaner are enough for cleaning, without abrasives and blades. If the surface is to be free again, the film comes off slowly and flat, with a little heat for older applications.
Accessories and samples
Anyone applying the film themselves finds the tools for installation in the Application Kit. The sample set contains a piece of every film so you can check transparency, feel and finish on your own surface before ordering.
The Home Protection Kit is a standard item with a fixed format and tools, and needs no dimension input. For your own dimensions the configurator is the way.
If something does not work
If bubbles remain after curing, the film can no longer be opened. Send us a photo then. Milky or blotchy spots can be application solution; if they remain after the first 24 hours, a photo helps as well.
For such cases there is the page on common problems in the guide. Where you cannot assess a surface reliably, the FAQ or a message to us helps.
Which article for which surface
There are separate articles for table and desk, likewise for the kitchen, window sill and door, high-gloss furniture, bathroom furniture and the loading edge. They go into the particularities of the surface, such as round tops, reflections or fronts with soft edges.
You find an overview by topic in the guide. What suits which application is shown on the application pages.
What the configurator does for you
You do not have to calculate anything yourself. The configurator shows the price live as soon as your dimensions are valid and reports when a dimension is outside the limits. For every shape it creates the trial template at 1:1.
For many parts there is the measuring sheet and the parts list in the cart. For special shapes you upload the outline as a file. All you need for this is a tape measure.
Rectangle, circle, oval, rounded corners, trapezoid and freeform are the shapes you choose from.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I start?
With the surface. If it is smooth and closed, you continue with the film. If in doubt, a photo helps.
Where do I find installation step by step?
In the guide. The guide articles go deeper into individual questions and link there.
What if I am unsure?
Send us a photo of your surface. We will tell you whether and which film fits.
